19 December 2018, by World Tennis Challenge

Spanish tennis star Fernando Verdasco (ESP) will play the World Tennis Challenge in 2019.

Verdasco will join Victoria Azarenka and Alexander Zverev alongside French tennis legend Henri Leconte for Team Leconte when the tournament takes place at Memorial Drive in Adelaide, South Australia from Monday 7 to Tuesday 8 January 2019.

The current world No.28 finished his 15th straight season in the top 50 this year and will be looking to play his 63rd consecutive Grand Slam at the Australian Open next month.

Ahead of Melbourne, Verdasco will return to the World Tennis Challenge for the second time.

“I really enjoyed visiting Adelaide in 2016 and I am looking forward to visiting South Australia again in January,” Verdasco said.

“I can’t wait to join Team Leconte alongside Henri Leconte, Victoria Azarenka and Sascha Zverev.”

World Tennis Challenge General Manager David Hearne is pleased to add Verdasco to the 2019 field featuring a host of top 10 players and Grand Slam champions.

“We’re excited to welcome Fernando to the World Tennis Challenge line up in 2019,” Hearne said.

“Fernando will join two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka, world No.4 Alexander Zverev, world No.12 Borna Coric and US Open doubles champion Coco Vandeweghe.

“Our 2019 playing field is strong and we hope we can put on a good show for the people of Adelaide.”
